What is Positive Engagement or Happiness at Work?
Happiness at Work does not mean simply being satisfied at work. It really means feeling happy at work. People who are happy at work are more motivated, inspired to do their best and more likely to stay in your company. They are also engaged, praise your company and have better mental and physical health. People should find their purpose and passion in their life and work.
We are familiar with terms such as ‘Blue Monday’ or ‘Thank God it’s Friday’, suggesting that we feel happier when we are not at work. And indeed a recent study showed this to be the case. If our aim is to increase happiness and reduce misery, then happiness at work is an important issue for us as individuals and as groups or organisations (Action for Happiness, 2013).
My vision is a world where happiness at work is the rule and not the exception. What really makes us happy is when we can make a difference for somebody else - Kjeruf, 2013
A Gallup study involving 8,000 people found that happiness at work leads to lower absenteeism, lower employee turnover, higher productivity, higher customer satisfaction, higher sales and higher profits. Our happiness and work are related
Work can provide opportunities for many of the things that help to make us happy such as: connecting with others; learning and growing our skills; using our strengths; achieving our goals and finding meaning. Happy employees also help to make organisations more successful (Action for Happiness, 2013).
The happiest people are dedicated to find the most difficult problems. Happiness comes from the feeling the employees are making a difference. - Harvard Business Review, 2013
We need to create our own experience. We are not a prisoner of circumstances or powerless. - Forbes, 2013
It is a conscious choice to be happy. - The Happiness Institute, 2013
